Inbound freight per unit, by mode

Calculate landed inbound freight cost per unit across shipment modes - ocean, air, truck, and LTL. Maps freight as a percentage of product COGS and identifies cost per unit by shipment scenario.

How it works

  • Each mode's total = its freight cost + customs, broker / ISF, drayage and insurance (applied to all modes).
  • Cost per unit = mode total / (cartons x units per carton).
  • Freight as % of COGS under 15% is healthy, 15-25% needs watching, above 25% erodes margin.
Note

Additional fees are applied to every mode, including domestic truck and LTL. If a domestic leg carries no customs or broker cost, compare it with those fees set to 0.
