The international margin stack
Model distributor margin, landed cost, and net brand margin across international markets. Understand what it really costs to go global.
How the stack is built
- Landed cost = ex-works / FOB + freight + duty (% of ex-works) + customs, broker and local delivery, plus an FX buffer on that total.
- Importer sell price = landed cost / (1 - importer margin).
- Distributor sell price = importer sell price x (1 + distributor markup).
- Implied retail price = distributor sell price x (1 + retailer markup). Keystone is 100%.
- Compare the implied retail price with your target consumer price. If it is higher, a layer has to give.
